Score: 90   2019 Verdad Wine Cellars Albariño Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard , Edna Valley

The 2019 Albariño is an attractive dry white with good varietal character

in its citrus, apricot pit and floral notes. Drink it over the next year or two.

Score: 92  2017 Verdad Tempranillo, Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard, Edna Valley

A gracious, easygoing wine. Sweet red berry fruit, cedar, tobacco, mint, crushed flowers and spice are all laced together in an effortless, wonderfully inviting Tempranillo that hits all the right notes.

Score: 94  2016 Verdad Tempranillo Reserva, Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard, Edna Valley

Fresh, vibrant and full of character. Bright acids and beams of tannin lend energy to this striking, translucent red. Sweet red cherry, mint, rose petal, lavender and dried herbs develop with time in the glass. A super appealing and beguiling red.

Score: 94  2016 Verdad Tempranillo, Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard, Edna Valley

The best edition of this wine I have ever tasted. Bright and vibrant in the glass, with substantial depth, the 2016 pulses with real energy. Sweet red/purplish fruit, sage, leather, tobacco and dried herb notes all develop in the glass, but what I really taste is a very fine version of Tempranillo made in California I don’t remember ever being this excited about the Verdad Tempranillo. The 2016 is a very fine wine.

Score: 93  2017 Sawyer Lindquist Chardonnay Spanish Springs Vineyard, Edna Valley

This shows just how compelling Edna Valley is. Apricot, marzipan, dried flowers, chamomile, lemon oil and a kiss of oak are some of the many notes that open up in this beautifully textured, creamy Chardonnay. The 2017 balances freshness with richness so well.

Score: 92  2017 Sawyer Lindquist Pinot Noir Estate Grown

Soft and forward, with mid-weight structure, the 2017 offers lovely immediacy. Crushed flowers, mint, sweet red cherry, kirsch and rose petals all grace a succulent, racy, mid-weight Pinot.

Score: 94  2016 Sawyer Lindquist Pinot Noir Estate Grown

Silky, open-knit and absolutely delicious. Crushed flowers, cedar, tobacco and leather notes give the 2016 striking earthy undertones to play off the dark red/purplish berry fruit. A wonderfully inviting Pinot.

Score: 91 2017 Verdad Tempranillo, Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard, Edna Valley

The 2017 Tempranillo Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard (which includes 8% Syrah) has a mostly opaque ruby/plum color to go with spicy notes of mulled black cherries, cedary spice, ground pepper, and dried earth. Nicely balanced, medium-bodied, and elegant on the palate, it’s another charming, complex wine from this label that’s well worth drinking.

Score: 92   2017 Sawyer Lindquist Pinot Noir, Estate Grown

Burgundian notes of spiced cherries, forest floor, and dried flowers all emerge from this medium-bodied beauty, which has a beautifully balanced, elegant texture, moderate tannins, and outstanding length. It will evolve for a decade.

Score: 92   2016 Sawyer Lindquist Pinot Noir, Estate Grown

It has a great bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, ground pepper, forest floor, and crushed rock-like minerality. Nicely textured and balanced, with good acidity, it’s a classic Pinot Noir to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.
