Tempranillo, Rock ‘N’ Rojo, Verdad 2015

Spicy aromas followed by flavors of tart cherries layered with smoke and cocoa is followed by hints of rose petals and herbs de Provence on the finish. This is a pretty wine with good balance and nice structure without the ponderous, chalky notes of many domestic Tempranillo wines grown in warmer climates. Pair this wine with a variety of meat, poultry and rice dishes. It is a nice complement to spicy Mexican and South American food.

  • 60% Tempranillo, Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard, Edna Valley
  • 15% Tempranillo, Ibarra-Young Vineyard Santa Ynez Valley
  • 10 % Syrah, Ibarra Young Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley
  • 15% Grenache, Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard

The Tempranillo, Syrah and Grenache grapes were de-stemmed and fermented into open topped fermenters. The fermenting must was punched down twice a day. After primary fermentation was complete the wine was put into neutral French barrels and aged for two years.

In 2015 we experienced a warm growing winter on the Central Coast and then the weather cooled down in the summer and we had our marine layer come in for much of the summer.

The Tempranillo grape lends flavors of tart cherries & chocolate, with lush berry & spice flavors from the Syrah, and pretty strawberry aromatics from the Grenache. The wine is delicious and refreshing. It’s a red/rojo wine that is rockin’ delicious. Enjoy with good humor and beautiful music.
