2018 Mourvèdre

$33.00

This wine is 100% Mourvèdre from French Camp Vineyard in the Paso Robles Highlands. 2018 was an outstanding vintage with a long, cool growing season and the Mourvédre from French Camp was the best I’ve seen. Aged for twelve months in neutral French oak barrels. We made four barrels. Two barrels went into the Central Coast Syrah and two barrels were kept separate for our wine club and tasting room exclusively.

This bright, earthy and spicy wine shows expressive raspberry fruit with great length and balance. It’s a wine that could easily be cellared for another five to 10 years. Only 46 cases produced.

2018 Mourvèdre

Paso Robles

Mourvèdre (also known as Mataró or Monastrell) is a red wine grape variety grown in many regions around the world including the Rhône and Provence regions of France, and the Valencia and Jumilla denominaciones de origen of Spain. In addition to making red varietal wines, Mourvèdre is a prominent component in “GSM” (Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre) blends. The variety can be a difficult grape to grow, preferring “its face in the hot sun and its feet in the water” meaning that it needs very warm weather, a low leaf-to-fruit ratio but adequate water or irrigation to produce intensely flavored fruit that is not overly jammy or herbaceous. Typically, Mourvèdre based wines often have wild game, or earthy notes to them, with soft red fruit flavors. At their best they are intriguing and captivating.
